Learn Something About Me

Greetings, Wildcats! I am an instructor in the English Department here at McKeel Academy. I proudly hold a Bachelor's degree in English and Secondary Education as well as a Master's degree in Secondary Education from Grand Valley State University in West Michigan.

I started my teaching career as an English instructor in 2006, and more recently, I joined Polk State College as an adjunct professor in 2015. This year, I am excited to be teaching English 4, AP Literature & Composition, Dual Enrollment ENC1101, ENC1102, LIT1000, and LIT1200 this year.

Because I teach primarily Seniors and college-level students, I consistently encourage my students to sharpen their reading and writing skills in preparation for the world of post-secondary education. I also try to inspire them to explore who they are and who they want to become. I want them to question their world and "dare to disturb the universe" as T.S. Eliot implores of us and begin to experience a sense of autonomy in relation to their goals and education. That being said, I'm looking forward to a fantastic year of great literature, meaningful discussion, preparation for life after high school, and plenty of self-discovery!
