MAT’s Summer Clubs registration is open! These clubs will be during various weeks throughout the month of June. There is something for everyone! Alley Cats: June 12-15
If you love bowling or want to learn, come out to Alley Cats Bowling Club. We will teach the basics of bowling to beginners, as well as some more advanced techniques for those who have been bowling for a while. Orange Bowl – 4318 US HWY 98 N, Lakeland,FL. 9:00am-1:00pm. Shoes and bowling provided for free. Bring your own food and water.

Calligraphy Club: Japanese and Mandarin Session 1: June 12-15
Students will learn the basics of calligraphy, the art of stylized, or elegant handwriting with a brush and ink. During the sessions, they will learn the correct formation of Japanese and Mandarin characters, the ordering, and the proportions of the various components of the linguistic characters. Using digital photo art apps and traditional scrapbooking, come have fun being creative! Digital and Traditional scrapbooking is a method of preserving and arranging personal and family history in multiple formats. Geocaching: June 26-29
In this program, the students will take a hands-on approach to seeking out hidden caches. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure-hunting game. Students try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and their own abilities to decipher clues. Meet At MAT, Room 01-112 from 9:00am-1:00pm.

Golf Camp: June 5-8
This golf camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game of golf. Campers will learn the rules and etiquette of the game while learning how to hit the variety of shots needed to play golf. We will work on driving, iron play, short game (including bunker play), and putting. Campers will be participating in numerous challenges while also playing the nine-hole course. Towards the end of the camp, they will also participate in Drive, Chip, and Putt challenge! Meet at The First Tee of Lakeland from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Are you a middle or high school student who enjoys the outdoors? Tired of being inside and looking to unplug? Join us for hiking and exploring some of the nature Polk County has to offer. Bring your sense of adventure. Meet at the following locations 8:00am-12:00pm.

Wednesday – Se7en Wetlands
Thursday – Gator Creek Reserve

Join the McKeel Fencing Club for this fun summer program as we learn the principles of Olympic-Style Fencing. Participants will train in basic footwork and blade work, learn the rules of competition fencing, and possibly even a few flashy tricks to impress your friends! Meet at MAT from 8:30am-12:30pm.

McKeel MASHUP! June 12-15
Incoming 7th Graders ONLY
The purpose of this program is to unite all incoming 7th grade students during the summer for team building, competitions, and making new friends. Students will be split into groups of 15 to 20 (depending on participation numbers) and will rotate through activities such as Wacky Science, Robotics Relays, Drama Llamas, Team Building Games, Team Sports, The Great Escape, etc. Pathfinders Outdoor Education will also be with us and will be rotating groups through their program. This event is really about having fun and meeting new people, including staff at MAT! Meet at MAT daily from 8:00am-12:00pm.

McKeel Serves: June 26-29
Join your fellow Wildcats the last week of June to make a difference in our community! Students participating in McKeel Serves will volunteer to play with dogs at a local rescue, deliver meals to senior adults, and sort clothing donations & school supplies for local foster families. Other possible service opportunities that week include visiting senior adult centers to play games & assist with memory care, and landscaping for those in need. Our club is open to high school students grades 9-12, who want to have fun, make a difference, and have the chance to earn community service hours. We will meet at various sites around Lakeland each morning at 9 AM and wrap up by 1 PM each day. Students MUST be able to have transportation to and from the locations.

Robots and Rocketry: June 5-8
GRADES 7-8
Step into the robotics world! Attendees will build robots and learn to code through multiple hands-on challenges. Additionally, they will learn how rockets work and the basic principles of rocket flight with our week culminating in a rocket launch competition! Club meets at MAT from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Would you like to earn community service hours and learn how to sew a basic pillowcase? If so, then Summer Sewing is for you! No previous sewing experience is necessary, we will teach you! We will be working with Cases for Ryan, a non-profit 503C organization that provides pillowcases for hospitalized children at local hospitals, including Lakeland Regional Health. All fabric, thread and sewing machines will be provided. Students interested in the club will rotate through all the tasks needed to complete a pillow case; washing/drying fabric, ironing, measuring/cutting, coordinating fabrics to create visually attractive cases and of course, sewing! Spanglish: June 5-8
Have you ever wondered what it's like to be caught in two worlds? Did you know some people who grew up speaking Spanish may one day start dreaming in English? Do you enjoy writing? Do you want to reach MORE people with your words? This class will allow you to experience what is like to be caught between two languages, but also what it is like to communicate and express yourselves. You may not live everyday between two cultures. However, you will most likely encounter different people in your life and this class will lay the foundation of a skill set that will allow you to express yourselves effectively. And you will get to make up stories that are interesting to YOU. SO whether you are English speaking, Spanish speaking, or both; you will be able to tell your story and reach more people with it. OH, there will also be snacks so WHY NOT! This club meets AT MAT in Room 04-103 from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Spin
Spin classes will continue to be offered at Cycledelic (3505 Cleveland Heights Boulevard, Lakeland, FL 33813) throughout the summer. Classes are Fridays, from 4:30-5:00PM, beginning the week of May 1st and ending the week of July 31st. There will be no spin club the week of July 3rd in observance of the 4th of July Holiday. Open to all grades 7th-12th but all riders must be 4’11” and weigh 100lbs.
To register for our private McKeel spin sessions, please email davinafallaw@mckeelschools.com to be added to the weekly signup email.
We have a total of 30 spots available each week and registration is first come first serve. If you register and then cannot make it, please deregister to free up the spot for another student!

Video Production: June 26-29
The Video Production Workshop will give students of all abilities the opportunity to learn tips and tricks to make their own quality videos. Students will first learn about equipment such as video cameras, different types of microphones, and lighting. The workshop will then transition into the software used to bring all of the elements together for an amazing final product. Room 07-104 from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Yoga Club
Yoga will be offered for eight weeks this summer at Yoga Pointe (2539 Florida Ave S, Lakeland, FL 33803). Mondays & Wednesdays from 3-4PM, beginning the week of June 5th and ending the week of July 31st. There will be no yoga club the week of July 3rd in observance of the 4th of July Holiday. Open to all grades 7th-12th.
Register on the Yoga Pointe website. The link highlights the Private McKeel High School class every Wednesday on the studio calendar. Click LOGIN to register, fill in the information (name, email, etc.). Then you will be prompted to create a password and sign a waiver. After those steps, you can register for classes.
