Social Studies Team

Welcome to McKeel Academy of Technology!!

Hello, I'm Ms. Boyd! I am a mom of two wonderful sons, Asher and Aiden, and one spoiled Labrador named BiBi! I love to travel and explore! Hand me a cup of coffee and I'm ready to ROCK! HA!

In 1996, I earned a Bachelor’s degree from Southeastern College in Secondary English Education with a minor in Communications. My minor was diversified between general Mass Communications and Literary History. I also have a Master’s degree from the University of South Florida in Reading, K-12 Education with an emphasis on Reading in the Social Studies classroom. My certifications include Elementary Education, grades K-6; English, grades 6-12; History, grades 6-12; and Reading, grades K-12. I also carry the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement. Currently, I am working on my finishing my doctorate at USF. I am focusing my research on innovative curriculum and instruction in Social Studies and beyond.

Throughout my career, I’ve also had the opportunity to participate in the Teaching American History Grant twice from the University of Florida. This has led me to several GREAT research opportunities at Plymouth, Jamestown, St. Augustine, Boston, MA. and Charleston, SC. Over the years, I have traveled with fellow McKeel teachers on EF Tours Educational Trips as a chaperone to London, Paris, Florence, Rome, Vatican City, and Madrid, Spain! Last summer, I took several students to Tokyo, Japan! Where should I travel next? Traveling is such a wondrous thing!

This school year I hope you join a club, sports team, or both. We have a lot of choices at MAT. I'm looking forward to co-sponsoring for our History honor society entitled Rho Kappa with Mrs. Batson and Mrs. S. Zimmerman. If you love History, talk to one of us! Do not be afraid to think, share, and dream! History can teach us a lot about ourselves and connected stories. I am looking forward to all our future adventures!

Kindest regards,

Ms. Boyd
