I am very excited to be serving as the academic coach for MAT!  Prior to coming to MAT, I taught 6th grade Science and Math at South McKeel.  Before that, I spent 20 years at the District teaching at Jewett Academy, Bartow Academy, and Bethune Academy. My educational background began with an AS in Biology from Mount Vernon Nazarene College.  I later earned a BA in Elementary Education from Warner Southern College, and finally an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University.   My certification includes Middle grades General Science, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, Elementary Education, and Exceptional Student Education.  I also have a gifted endorsement.

I am very familiar with the kinds of interventions and accommodations that students need to achieve success.  I also understand the importance of giving our students the tools and skills they need to be successful on their own later on in life. That’s what "The BYPASS” is designed to do.  The BYPASS is a learning resource center here at MAT that focuses on Building Your Personal Academic Success Skills.  The thinking behind the BYPASS is that although we are all headed in the same direction and to the same ultimate destination (graduation), we all won't necessarily take the same route to get there.  Sometimes we need to take the bypass, or a detour, along the road.  Sometimes that is due to a physical limitation, sometimes a learning disability, and sometimes circumstances in our life prevent us from meeting our potential. It is my goal to provide alternate routes, including tutoring sessions, mentoring experiences, and study groups to any student who finds themselves needing to take a bypass.   I am looking forward to a great year.
