High School Academy Team

What is it?

A-Team competes in the Polk County High School Tournament, which is a highly academic competition for high school students. The team consists of six members, a coach, and a co-coach. It is a quick response tournament in which players are asked questions from the areas of mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, fine arts, world language, and technology.

Meetings

The team has practice every Wednesday in Mr. Flick’s room and has a match every month starting in September running thru February. A-Team is led by Mr. Flick, and now has an assistant coach, Mrs. Dyer!

Mr. Flick, Administrator

Welcome to Advanced Placement Calculus AB, Advanced Placement Calculus BC, Honors PreCalculus, and Honors Geometry! I’m a graduate of Southeastern University with a degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. This will be my eighth year at McKeel and a super, fabulous one at that!

A couple things about me would include: I have an extreme passion for Gator basketball, and if you see me wearing orange and blue during basketball season, you can probably guess that they have a game that day. I also enjoy many other things such as spending time with my wife, golf, tennis, wood-working, hiking, and food. I also have an awesome son, John, and a pet rabbit named Galilea (named after the rude mathematician “Galileo”). :)

I look forward to my students having a greater appreciation for the beauty that is Mathematics.

In the words of Lagrange, “As long as algebra and geometry traveled separate paths their advance was slow and their applications limited. But when these two sciences joined company, they drew from each other fresh vitality and thenceforth marched on at a rapid pace toward perfection.”
