McKeel Academy Clay Target Team

Who are we?

We are thrilled to announce the start of a new club to McKeel Academy, the Clay Target Club. This club is part of the national club, The USA High School Clay Target League. ( http://www.usaclaytarget.com) This club has existed since 2003. Our club will be an extracurricular co-ed activity open to high schools for students in grades 8 through twelve who have their firearms safety certification. MAT will be participating in the Florida State High School Clay Target League. ( http://flclaytarget.com) The club will officially begin in the Spring of 2019 but, we want to make sure there's plenty of time for students to prepare. Attached is the handbook for the club that will need to be reviewed. There will be a interest meeting September 18 at 6PM at McKeel Academy of Technology in the cafeteria.

Students that have an interest in joining this club, or any parent that might have interest in assisting, will be required to complete a firearms safety certification training before joining, either through the clay target website or through a certified trainer.

We participate as a team in the Florida State High School Clay Target League (FSHSCTL). The spring season runs from March to June, while the fall season runs from September to October. We will practice and compete at the Imperial Polk Gun Club and participate in the discipline of trap shooting.

Mission Statement

McKeel Academy Clay Target Team (“MATCTT”) has a mission of educating and training youth in grades eight through twelve, who have their firearm safety certificate, in the extra-curricular coeducational activity of shooting sports. MATCTT will provide education and training to those qualifying students that attend McKeel Academy of Technology for the purpose of providing opportunities to those student athletes, so they understand and experience the safe handling of firearms while competing in socially acceptable shooting sports. Through this the organization strives to emphasize a co-educational, safe, ethical, respectful, chemical free, dignified, learning experience. Participation is a privilege, not a right.
